Morecambe and North Lancashire area
Morecambe is situated in North Lancashire on Morecambe Bay with famous sunsets and fabulous views over to the Lake District mountains. Morecambe remains a popular resort with its attractions, the newest of which is the famous Eric Morecambe Memorial Statue in his familiar pose by Graham Ibbeson M. A. There is a large shopping centre in Morecambe offer high street stores and these are supplemented by several local supermarkets and retails parks. The town offers several well maintained parks and bowling greens which host many national competitions during the summer months. Morecambe is ideally located just off the M6 motorway which provides easy access to Lake District or Peak District National Parks as well as the Yorkshire Dales, Blackpool, Preston and other larger shopping centres. The large number of bus services and local train station ensure that any of the area of the country is easily accessible. The city of Lancaster is just a few miles away with it's landmark building of Williamson's Park and it's historic castle still a working prison. Lancaster also offers the avid historian the Maritime Museum, Judges Lodgings and much more. A few miles down the the coast is the ancient village of Heysham where St. Patrick landed from Ireland, the ancient coffins are still accessible through the quaint church yard of St. Peters. Within the area there are several health clubs and leisure centres offering a wide range of activities for all ages. The area also boasts four challenging golf courses with stunning views either across the Penines or the bay. |
